Tell us about yourself, who are you and what makes you unique?
I am Niklas :) 34 years young, married to the coolest woman in the world, and father of two cool boys aged 3 and 6. I am a trained sports and fitness specialist and personal trainer. Since there was hardly any demand in this industry, I had to come up with something.
So, in 2012, I started working in an aluminum foundry, melting aluminum at huge furnaces. I've been riding a bicycle since I can remember, always a bit differently than everyone else.
This passion grabbed me early and has accompanied me to this day. At some point, I completely lost myself in motocross and rode up and down the trails with my MTB to stay fit. But when I taught my kids how to ride MTB in the bike park, I realized how many injuries happen daily—mostly to beginners and in situations that could have been completely avoided. I knew something had to happen here, woke up in the middle of the night with a name in my head (school of skillz), and shortly afterward, I founded my own bike school. Where I now teach several hundred people my individual training methods for proper riding techniques, ensuring they not only survive the trails healthily but also perform exceptionally well. That makes me the happiest person in the world.
Racing or just cycling? And why?
Simply cycling and enjoying every moment of it! I always say, as long as there are two wheels and dirt, no matter which bike or terrain. Cycling is so diverse; it would be a shame to concentrate on just one discipline. I love the variety and the different techniques that you can learn and apply. I think this mix makes me who I am today.
What is your best MTB experience so far?
It's clear for me: the founding of my SCHOOL OF SKILLZ.
Why do you love mountain biking?
I love nature, fresh air, and I'm into all kinds of action sports. What could be better than riding cool trails with your MTB? Additionally, I live in Winterberg, surrounded by three mega bike parks: Bikepark Winterberg, MTB Zone Willingen, and Green Hill Bikepark. So, it's pretty obvious where I spend my free time. :)
What are you most proud of in your MTB career so far?
I recently did a front flip, which made me proud. :D
But being a coach and seeing how my participants develop, how grateful they are when I help them achieve success with my own methods, THAT makes me super proud and puts all my personal achievements in the shade.
A tip you would give to a young MTB kid who also wants to become a pro rider.
Get on your bike only when you really feel like it! Fun should play the biggest role on your way to becoming a pro. Go out on the bike and have fun. And if you ever get stuck and need help, then contact me! #ridesafe
